Google Calendar (Events)

Your website needs to use an Internet service like Google Calendar to show a calendar of church events. You can use other calendaring services if you wish, but Google Calendar is free and easy to use. Here's how it looks on our model website.

If you don't want a church calendar, just skip to the next section. You can easily add it later.

To get started, obtain a Gmail account and go to your calendar.

  • If the Gmail account is for for the church, then you will use that calendar. If it's your personal email then you'll want to create a special calendar for your church. To create a special calendar, look in the left column and find the link that says "Create." Click it.
  • Give your calendar a name, such as "First Unity Church"
  • Note the tab that says "Share this Calendar." Go there and click "Share this calendar with others", "Make this calendar public" and select "See all event details."
  • Note the tab that says "Calendar Details" See the link that says "Customize the color, size and other options."

Choose the following:

  • Calendar Title: leave blank
  • Show: Check all boxes
  • Default view: Month
  • Width: 500 pixels
  • Height: 600 pixels
  • Week Starts on: (I recommend Sunday)
  • Language: default
  • Background color: leave white
  • Border? Leave unchecked
  • TimeZone: select your time zone

Then click the Update HTML button at the top of the page and copy everything in the box under the label "Copy and paste the HTML below to include this calendar on your webpage."

Include this in your email to me.
