Obed, o'-bed (Heb.)--laboring; working; making; serving; worshipping.

a Son of Boaz and Ruth, and grandfather of David (Ruth 4:21). b There were other Israelites by this name, also (I Chron. 2:37; 11:47; 26:7; II Chron. 23:1).

Meta. An active thought, in the spiritual consciousness of man, that pertains to service and worship. "God is spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:24; first clause, as given in margin). In other words, God is Mind; and they that worship Him must worship through thinking, by their thoughts. Mind, in its highest aspect, and Spirit are synonymous.
