Metaphysical meaning of Jabal (mbd)
Jabal, ja'-bal (Heb.)--flowing moisture; a welling up; flowing copiously; a stream; fertility; abundance; shouting with joy; jubilation; exultation; triumph. The negative aspects of the word are: flowing out; exhausting; passing away; wanderer; defeat; going out (death).

Descendant of Cain. He was a son of Lamech by Adah. "And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents and have cattle" (Gen. 4:20).

Meta. The transitoriness of the outer, physical man of one who is dwelling in the animal-strength consciousness. (Wanderer, passing away, going out, and "dwell in tents" all show lack of permanence. Cattle refer to animal strength. A stream here means the life flow. Cain, from whom Jabal is descended, symbolizes the outer or physical man; Adah, Jabal's mother, is a phase of the animal soul in man; Lamech, father of Jabal, means overthrower, a strong young man. These all bear out the significance given to Jabal.)
