Metaphysical meaning of Areopagite (mbd)
Areopagite, ar-e-op-a-gite (Gk.)--of the Areopagus.
A member of the court of Areopagus (Acts 17:34). This court, at Mars' Hill, Athens, was the oldest and most honored court of justice in the whole known world at that time. It existed throughout many centuries. Even foreign countries sought its decisions because of their value and equity.
Meta. The court of Areopagus represents the highest understanding and rendering of justice in the intellectual domain, and is very close to the spiritual. An Areopagite symbolizes one of the thoughts or qualities of justice and fairness and discernment that comprise this court in consciousness. (See AREOPAGUS.)
