Hi Friends – I spend far more time answering questions than research and writing. So this "blog post" is really a "Question and Answer" post. The TruthUnity homepage will display recent replies to questions in the upper right corner. I hope sharing them will be helpful to others. Greetings – I was raised Southern Baptist [and] I am still Christian. This is what made Unity attractive to me—I saw it as Christian, but open to the wisdom of other traditions and without condemning those on other paths to an eternity in a burning hell. However, the more I look into Unity, the more it seems to me that Unity is moving away from Christianity [and] its Christian roots/identity ... I can see myself being part of Unity, but I want the Unity that still preaches/teaches from the Bible. I don’t mind quotations from Islamic, Buddhist, or Hindu sources at all, but I don’t want the Bible completely cut out, either. I don’t want to see Unity become a place that simply repeats bland platitudes, I want to see a robust, deep, and rich Unity that truly unlocks the Bible and our potential as human beings by following the path of Jesus Christ. ... What should I do? What is your advice? – Houston, Texas Dear Friend in Houston – Charles and Myrtle Fillmore's movement grew rapidly for 20 years with almost no Unity churches. Their students ordered materials from the Fillmore's building at 913 Tracy Avenue in Kansas City, studied on their own or with others in small study groups, while remaining in their Catholic, mainstream, and evangelical churches. So can you. You have all the resources today that existed in the early days: You can read the Lessons in Truth Study Edition; you can order materials from our Giftshop; you can download and study the full text of the Correspondence School Lessons or read it online; you can read the Fillmore Study Bible, downloadable book by book, or get a printed copy ready to ship to anyone in the US who asks for one; you can read the same Bible used by the Fillmores, fully hyperlinked to the Metaphysical Bible Dictionary and linked to 70 years of Unity Bible commentary, you can join our mailing list, and ... STILL ATTEND THE CHURCH THAT FEEDS YOU SPIRITUALLY. What you are looking for is a church that has sufficient faith density to support your Christian journey. Well, we've kind of got that covered also. It just so happens that each Sunday at 11am Central time, Rev. Greg Neteler livestreams a solid Fillmore-based message from the Fillmore's platform at 9th and Tracy. Besides Greg's broadcast, this same link shows several ongoing live classes based on the Correspondence School Lessons. And this Labor Day weekend, we have our first Awaken the Christ Within, a Fillmore Inspired Spiritual Retreat. You will find that the Fillmore teachings focus more on the inner journey than the outward community. We have many Catholics, Mainline Protestants, Evangelicals, Later Day Saints (Mormons), Christian Science, Jews, and non-affiliated people who study Fillmore and then discover deeper insight into Christianity's many expressions. They find they have no reason to leave their current church. If your current church is feeding you spiritually, stay there, stay in touch, and, study Fillmore! – Mark |
