²³ I begged Yahweh at that time, saying, ²⁴“Lord† Yahweh, you have begun to show your servant your greatness, and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or in earth that can do works like yours, and mighty acts like yours? ²⁵ Please let me go over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that fine mountain, and Lebanon.”

²⁶ But Yahweh was angry with me because of you, and didn’t listen to me. Yahweh said to me, “That is enough! Speak no more to me of this matter. ²⁷ Go up to the top of Pisgah, and lift up your eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and see with your eyes; for you shall not go over this Jordan. ²⁸ But commission Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you shall see.” ²⁹ So we stayed in the valley near Beth Peor.

¹ Now, Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances which I teach you, to do them,1 that you may live and go in and possess the land which Yahweh, the God of your fathers, gives you. ² You shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall you take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God which I command you. ³ Your eyes have seen what Yahweh did because of Baal Peor;2 for Yahweh your God has destroyed all the men who followed Baal Peor from among you. ⁴ But you who were faithful to Yahweh your God are all alive today. ⁵ Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as Yahweh my God commanded me, that you should do so in the middle of the land where you go in to possess it. ⁶ Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who shall hear all these statutes and say, “Surely this great nation3 is a wise and understanding people.” ⁷ For what great nation is there that has a god so near to them as Yahweh our God is whenever we call on him? ⁸ What great nation is there that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law which I set before you today?

⁹ Only be careful, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes saw, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your children and your children’s children— ¹⁰ the day that you stood before Yahweh your God in Horeb, when Yahweh said to me, “Assemble the people to me, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.” ¹¹ You came near and stood under the mountain. The mountain burned with fire to the heart of the sky, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness. ¹² Yahweh spoke to you out of the middle of the fire:4 you heard the voice of words, but you saw no form; you only heard a voice. ¹³ He declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even the ten commandments. He wrote them on two stone tablets. ¹⁴ Yahweh commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it. ¹⁵ Be very careful, for you saw no kind of form on the day that Yahweh spoke to you in Horeb out of the middle of the fire, ¹⁶ lest you corrupt yourselves, and make yourself a carved image in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, ¹⁷ the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the sky, ¹⁸ the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth; ¹⁹ and lest you lift up your eyes to the sky, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the army of the sky, you are drawn away and worship them, and serve them, which Yahweh your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole sky. ²⁰ But Yahweh has taken you, and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be to him a people of inheritance, as it is today.5 ²¹Furthermore Yahweh was angry with me for your sakes, and swore that I should not go over the Jordan, and that I should not go in to that good land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance; ²² but I must die in this land. I must not go over the Jordan, but you shall go over and possess that good land. ²³ Be careful, lest you forget the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he made with you, and make yourselves a carved image in the form of anything which Yahweh your God has forbidden you. ²⁴ For Yahweh your God is a devouring fire, a jealous God. ²⁵ When you father children and children’s children, and you have been long in the land, and then corrupt yourselves, and make a carved image in the form of anything, and do that which is evil in Yahweh your God’s sight to provoke him to anger, ²⁶ I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that you will soon utterly perish from off the land which you go over the Jordan to possess it. You will not prolong your days on it, but will utterly be destroyed. ²⁷ Yahweh will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where Yahweh will lead you away. ²⁸ There you will serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. ²⁹ But from there you shall seek Yahweh your God, and you will find him when you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. ³⁰ When you are in oppression, and all these things have come on you, in the latter days you shall return to Yahweh your God and listen to his voice. ³¹ For Yahweh your God is a merciful God. He will not fail you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which he swore to them. ³² For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and from the one end of the sky to the other, whether there has been anything as great as this thing is, or has been heard like it? ³³ Did a people ever hear the voice of God speaking out of the middle of the fire, as you have heard, and live? ³⁴ Or has God tried to go and take a nation for himself from among another nation,6 by trials, by signs, by wonders, by war, by a mighty hand, by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? ³⁵ It was shown to you so that you might know that Yahweh is God. There is no one else besides him. ³⁶ Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice, that he might instruct you. On earth he made you to see his great fire;7 and you heard his words out of the middle of the fire. ³⁷ Because he loved your fathers,8 therefore he chose their offspring after them, and brought you out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt; ³⁸ to drive out nations from before you greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is today. ³⁹ Know therefore today, and take it to heart, that Yahweh himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath. There is no one else.9 ⁴⁰ You shall keep his statutes and his commandments10 which I command you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which Yahweh your God gives you for all time.

1. listen to the statutes and to the ordinances which I teach you, to do them. Why should we keep the divine law? Because it is the law of life, and in keeping it we insure our well-being. As we observe the law of life, we live well and truly.
2. Baal Peor. A form of Baal worship practiced in Peor and is said to have been worshiped in obscene ceremonies. Metaphysically, the exalting of sensuality (MBD/Baal-Peor).
3. Surely this great nation. Nations are aggregations of thoughts in the mind that are to be instructed through the faculties (RW/nation).
4. Yahweh spoke to you out of the middle of the fire. Applied to the individual, how does the voice of God speak out of the midst of the fire? When man is lifted up in silent meditation (Sinai) he has a conscious realization of spiritual life quickening certain of his brain and nerve centers. This life force carries a current of thought which man, by practice, interprets, and thus he hears the voice of God or he receives thought vibrations from universal intelligence.
5. But Yahweh has taken you, and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be to him a people of inheritance, as it is today. What is the object of the discipline herein set forth? Man must establish his consciousness in the I AM of Divine Mind, Jehovah, and have the assurance that there is no other power, or intelligence.
6. Or has God tried to go and take a nation for himself from among another nation. When we accept the guidance of Divine Mind, how are our thoughts (nations) clarified, that is, how are spiritual thoughts (Israel) separated from the material thoughts (Egypt)? This question is answered in verse 34. It is the power of God that separates nations from nations (thoughts from thoughts) "by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm."
7. Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice ... On earth he made you to see his great fire. Heaven is the omnipresent realm in which the absolute exists and out of which all ideas of Truth proceed. This is symbolically stated as the voice of God, by which man receives instructions. The “earth” is the manifest realm where the “fire” is made visible to the conscious mind. In the realm of intuition man hears the words or the vibrations of thought in the midst of the fire.
8. Because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their offspring after them. The “fathers” represent the original ideas in Divine Mind. “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” The seed of the fathers symbolize differentiated ideas working together as faculties that are represented in the life of Jesus Christ by his disciples. Divine Mind loves its ideas, and because it loves its ideas it also loves the expression of these ideas, the human family.
9. Know therefore today ... There is no one else. We must enter into the realization in our heart or the center of our being that I AM (Yahweh) is ruler both in the realms invisible and in the realms visible and that there is no other source of existence.
10. You shall keep his statutes and his commandments. To keep the statutes arid commandments of Yahweh God, we must awaken our spiritual understanding; we must comprehend Spirit Mind and its attributes, and, above all, seek to know and to keep the law of Spirit, instead of the law of the flesh.

⁴¹ Then Moses set apart three cities beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise, ⁴² that the man slayer might flee there, who kills his neighbor unintentionally and didn’t hate him in time past, and that fleeing to one of these cities he might live: ⁴³ Bezer1 in the wilderness, in the plain country, for the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead2 for the Gadites; and Golan3 in Bashan for the Manassites.

1. Bezer. In consciousness, divine protection and strength, wherein no enemy of error can enter, but all error is restrained, cut off (a fortification, strong city, inaccessible). This consciousness of Truth is a city of refuge, a preserving, redeeming quality, in the individual who possesses it (MBD/Bezer).
2. Gilead. Metaphysically, the high place in consciousness where Spirit discerns and witnesses to what is true and to all man's thoughts and acts, that an adjustment may be made throughout mind and body (MBD/Gilead).
3. Golan. A city of refuge in Bashan. Metaphysically, spiritual life activity (circuit, circle, exultation, praise) established in love (Levites) and understanding (Manasseh). Mistaken, limited thoughts in consciousness, upon awaking to greater light, may flee to this place and be forgiven and healed (MBD/Golan).

⁴⁴ This is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel. ⁴⁵ These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances which Moses spoke to the children of Israel when they came out of Egypt, ⁴⁶ beyond the Jordan, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel struck when they came out of Egypt. ⁴⁷ They took possession of his land and the land of Og king of Bashan,1 the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise; ⁴⁸ from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, even to Mount Zion (also called Hermon), ⁴⁹ and all the Arabah beyond the Jordan eastward, even to the sea of the Arabah, under the slopes of Pisgah.

1. They took possession of his land and the land of Og king of Bashan. A district east of Jordan, the land of Og. It was noted for its fruitfulness and its herds Metaphysically, life and substance, inexhaustible and limitless (smooth, fertile soil, fruitful) when the animal forces (herds) are properly directed and handled by the understanding (MBD/Bashan).

¹ Moses called to all Israel, and said to them, “Hear, Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears2 today, that you may learn them, and observe to do them.” ² Yahweh our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. ³ Yahweh didn’t make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive today. ⁴ Yahweh spoke with you face to face on the mountain out of the middle of the fire, ⁵(I stood between Yahweh and you at that time, to show you Yahweh’s word; for you were afraid because of the fire, and didn’t go up onto the mountain) saying,

⁷“You shall have no other gods before me.4

⁸“You shall not make a carved image for yourself5—any likeness of what is in heaven above, or what is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. ⁹ You shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me ¹⁰ and showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

¹¹“You shall not misuse the name of Yahweh your God;6* for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name.

¹²“Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy,7 as Yahweh your God commanded you. ¹³ You shall labor six days, and do all your work; ¹⁴ but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahweh your God, in which you shall not do any work—neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates; that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. ¹⁵ You shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm. Therefore Yahweh your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

¹⁶“Honor your father and your mother,8 as Yahweh your God commanded you, that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land which Yahweh your God gives you.

¹⁷“You shall not murder.9

¹⁸“You shall not commit adultery.10

¹⁹“You shall not steal.11

²⁰“You shall not give false testimony12 against your neighbor.

²¹“You shall not covet13 your neighbor’s wife. Neither shall you desire your neighbor’s house, his field, or his male servant, or his female servant, his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”

2. the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears. In Truth teaching divine law is used to denote the law that governs the expression or manifestation of life by all living creatures. In the measure that living creatures conform to the law they express life. The divine law is evidenced in the animal as instinct to follow a course of action that tends to preserve and continue the animal's existence. In human beings, the divine law is evidenced as an inner, compelling urge so to live and act as to develop our innate powers and abilities and to aspire and progress continually toward the highest ideals of which we can conceive.
3. I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. I AM, your awareness, is Lord and Master and besides your awareness there is neither Lord nor Master. You are Master of all that you will ever be aware of being (Neville Goddard, Your Faith Is Your Fortune, chapter 4).
4. You shall have no other gods before me. To the children of Israel for whom these Commandments were originally given, this meant that they must give up their allegiance to Egyptian gods, or other heathen gods they may have worshiped during their Egyptian bondage. To us today it means that we must acknowledge that there is only One Presence and One Power, God the Good, Omnipotent—if we want to inherit the mastery and dominion that God has given us over our lives and circumstances. We break the spiritual Principle in the Commandment when we give lip service to a belief in God, but actually in living our everyday lives we believe that It is mostly “luck” that governs our lives—and that other people or limited circumstances have more power than the Power of God. So the spiritual principle behind the First Commandment is: “THERE IS ONLY ONE PRESENCE AND ONE POWER, GOD THE GOOD, OMNIPOTENT!” (Charles Roth, The Ten Commandments for Today, p.41)
5. You shall not make a carved image for yourself. Many Israelites carried small religious statues—miniatures of the statues in Egyptian and heathen temples. To us today, this Commandment means that we must not engrave (graven means engrave) an image, or belief, in limitation into the subconscious level of mind by believing in it and fearing it. For instance, if you profess to believe in God as the one Power and Presence and at the same time live in mortal fear of getting sick or going broke, then you are hiding a graven image in your tent or you are engraving a limited and destructive belief in your subconscious mind. And the Law will bring forth in your life according to that destructive belief! So the spiritual principle behind the Second Commandment is: “DO NOT ENGRAVE AN IMAGE OF LIMITATION IN YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS LEVEL OF MIND AND SERVE IT BY BELIEVING AND FEARING IT!” (Roth, pp.41-2)
6. You shall not misuse the name of Yahweh your God. God’s Name is “I Am.” This is the Name God gave when Moses asked God point blank, “Who shall I say sent me?” The unhesitating answer was, “I Am that I Am. Tell them ‘I AM’ sent you.” God’s Name and your spiritual Name is, “I AM.” So when you think or say, “I am sick,” or “I am afraid,” or “I am a failure,” you are truly taking God’s Name in vain and you suffer the consequences, for the Law is self-enforcing—you will become sick or afraid or a failure. The spiritual principle for the Third Commandment then is: “GOD’S NAME IS ‘I AM’ I ATTACH TO THAT ‘I AM’ ONLY THAT WHICH IS TRUE OF GOD!” (Roth, pp.42)
7. Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. The Sabbath day is the consciousness that we have fulfilled the Divine Law in both thought and act. Those who merely rest from physical labor on Sunday do not fulfill this law. The law must be observed in Spirit. Physical rest fulfills only a part of the law. Sabbath rest carries with it the idea of worship. “God is Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (MBI/Deuteronomy 5). The Sabbath is the “let go and let God” state of mind. It is not a day of the week, but an attitude of mind. It is that inner mental climate when you do all you can in an outer way, then refuse to panic or become impatient but stand still and trust God. The Sabbath is the conscious awareness that a Power higher than your human power is silently, invisibly, but effectively at work—and all truly is in Divine Order. Spiritual principle number four is: “LET GO AND LET GOD”. (Roth, pp.42)
8. Honor your father and your mother. At the time the Ten Commandments were given to the wandering Israelites, the tribe was family structured with the father and mother the authority figures. As time passed, Jesus gave a new and universal interpretation to the idea of a family unit. In His question, “Who is my mother?” and in His teaching of God as the universal Father, Jesus enlarged the scope of the Fifth Commandment to include all humanity. So, when you hold thoughts or feelings of hate, resentment, unforgiveness or ill will of any kind toward anyone, you are placing yourself “out of tune” with the Law behind the Fifth Commandment and again, the Law is self-enforcing and you suffer. Spiritual principle of the Fifth Commandment is: “I BEHOLD AND HONOR THE CHRIST IN ALL PERSONS.” (Roth, pp.42)
9. You shall not murder. To kill is to destroy, and we unleash a tremendously destructive power when we indulge in negative thinking. Thoughts of anger, hate, fear, vengeance are actually “killer thoughts,” and those who entertain them are destroying their own happiness as well as, in time, their own physical bodies. Spiritual principle Number Six is: “THOU SHALT NOT ENTERTAIN DESTRUCTIVE THOUGHTS OR FEELINGS.” (Roth, pp.43)
10. You shall not commit adultery. Adultery means unfaithfulness. When you are unfaithful to the laws of right thinking through which the Power of God operates, you bring upon yourself hardship, lack, illness and trouble. When you are faithful to them, the same laws work to effortlessly transform your life into an expression of happiness, health and prosperity. Adultery in a spiritual sense means to “adulterate” your formative power of thought with poisonous negatives, such as fear, discouragement, impatience, self-pity, etc. Spiritual principle Number Seven is: “I SEE AND ACCEPT ONLY THE GOOD!” (Roth, pp.43)
11. You shall not steal. This commandment really means: You cannot steal! There is a price for everything and that price is your consciousness of the thing. If you want to have and to hold a happy, a healthy body, and unlimited supply for your needs—you have to pay the price which is to develop a consciousness of God as your health, your unfailing supply, your all-knowing guidance. Each one of us wants a better life than we are now experiencing. This is right and good. It is God’s Spirit in us seeking to get out into ever increasing expression of good. You “work with” the prospering Spirit of God by recognizing God as the Source of the good you seek, and recognizing yourself as God’s beloved Child. So spiritual principle Number Eight is: “MY WORLD IS A REFLECTION OF MY CONSCIOUSNESS!” (Roth, pp.43)
12. You shall not give false testimony. To give witness is to think, speak and act what you believe to be true. And according to your “belief” is it done unto you. If your witness is: “I am afraid this will never work out,” that is the way it will be—it will never work out! Learn to think and say: “This is going to work out for good, it can’t help it, for I am consciously working with God!” To give true witness is to declare what is true of God not what the present appearances seem to indicate. Appearances, remember, are subject to change, and the direction of their change depends upon the direction of your thoughts. When present appearances are those of illness, your declaration of God’s Presence as Life-giving Spirit will move the changing appearances in the direction of health and wholeness. So, in spite of present conditions—no matter how hard or immovable they appear—declare the. unchanging Truth that God’s healing, harmonizing, prospering Spirit is at work, and the changeable facts will start moving in the direction of your Truth-based thoughts. Ninth Commandments’s spiritual principle is: “DECLARE WHAT IS TRUE OF GOD-NOT WHAT PRESENT APPEARANCES SEEM TO INDICATE!” (Roth, pp.44)
13. You shall not covet. This is a subtle Commandment. Webster’s dictionary defines covet as, “to desire ardently” then in parenthesis, “(especially something that another person has).” In the world today we have what we might call a “status system.” A man’s importance and therefore worth, has come to be judged by his material possessions. And there are very few persons who, secretly at least, do not ardently desire to move up in the status scale by acquiring the possessions that a fellow a couple of steps higher has. The spiritual point here is ... you do not really want, nor can you have someone else’s good. God has reserved and waiting for you, your own special good! Forget the status system. Don’t work on the goal of acquiring “things.” Work on the goal of acquiring a greater consciousness of God as the Source of your supply, the Power that can and will fulfill your every real need in an exciting and overflowing way! “Seek ye first,” Jesus so wisely said, “the kingdom of God,” which is, of course, within you, “and all these things shall be added.” So to have permanent spiritually-based prosperity, follow the spiritual principle in Commandment Number Ten: “GOD IS THE SOURCE OF MY SUPPLY. MY OWN SHALL COME TO ME, I AM GRATEFUL!” (Roth, pp.44)

²² Yahweh spoke these words to all your assembly on the mountain1 out of the middle of the fire,2 of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice. He added no more. He wrote them on two stone tablets, and gave them to me. ²³ When you heard the voice out of the middle of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near to me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders; ²⁴ and you said, “Behold, Yahweh our God has shown us his glory3 and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the middle of the fire. We have seen today that God does speak with man, and he lives. ²⁵ Now therefore, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us. If we hear Yahweh our God’s voice any more, then we shall die. ²⁶ For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the middle of the fire, as we have, and lived? ²⁷ Go near, and hear all that Yahweh our God shall say, and tell us all that Yahweh our God tells you; and we will hear it, and do it.”

²⁸ Yahweh heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me; and Yahweh said to me, “I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have well said all that they have spoken. ²⁹ Oh that there were such a heart in them that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!

³⁰“Go tell them, ‘Return to your tents.’4 ³¹ But as for you, stand here by me, and I will tell you all the commandments, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess.”

³² You shall observe to do therefore as Yahweh your God has commanded you.5 You shall not turn away to the right hand or to the left. ³³ You shall walk in all the way which Yahweh your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.

1. Yahweh spoke these words to all your assembly on the mountain. The mountain is exaltation, a high plane of consciousness, a state of spiritual realization (MBD/mountain).
2. out of the middle of the fire. Fire is generally used in the Bible as a symbol of destruction of evil and error. Fire also represents the positive, affirmative state of mind, as opposed to the negative or watery state (MBD/fire).
3. God has shown us his glory. Glory—realization of divine unity; the blending and merging of man's mind with God-Mind (RW/glory).
4. Return to your tents. Tents—The flesh bodies of human beings that they put on and off again and again (MBD/tents).
5. You shall observe to do therefore as Yahweh your God has commanded you. Are we compelled to keep the divine law, or have we free will in this respect? We are free to disobey the law, but doing so is our undoing. For us, the divine law is the law of his well-being: “that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days.” To disobey the law brings us into consciousness of evil, either physical suffering and death or evil effects in his mind and moral nature.

¹ Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahweh your God commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land that you go over to possess;1 ² that you might fear Yahweh your God,2 to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you—you, your son, and your son’s son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged. ³ Hear therefore, Israel, and observe to do it, that it may be well with you, and that you may increase mightily, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has promised to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

⁴Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God. Yahweh is one.3 ⁵ You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.4 ⁶ These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart;5 ⁷ and you shall teach them diligently to your children,6 and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. ⁸ You shall bind them for a sign on your hand,7 and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. ⁹ You shall write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates.8

1. that you might do them in the land that you go over to possess. When we know positively that all our ills are the result of error thoughts, we strive to think right, that we may possess the land. The “land” represents the substance in consciousness in which ideas of Truth function.
2. that you might fear Yahweh your God. To “fear Yahweh” is to reverence Yahweh. Yahweh is the Divine Law, which is set into activity through the executive faculty of mind.
3. Yahweh is our God. Yahweh is one. The idea of the One God centralizes thought and masses all true ideas. Unfoldment of thought power follows and man begins to see himself as he truly is. It is uphill work trying to love the Lord God. The way to make it easy is to mass all love thoughts at the heart center, and affirm the might power of the Spirit of Love. Then sending thoughts of love to those we have considered our enemies opens up soul graces we never knew we possessed.
4. You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. God is always endeavoring to express through us. Love is a magnet which draws to us whatever we set our love upon. To love God with the whole heart draws into consciousness the full expression of God's love. In these words is contained the fundamental principle which acts as a basis for the operation of the whole spiritual law. The mathematical exactness of the law does not excuse mistakes, but love softens the law and forgives the ignorant sinner.
5. These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; Our first thought should be of the love of Yahweh. Our love should proceed out of the heart, the center of love consciousness in the body. Having attained a consciousness of love we should direct the soul or thinking mind toward Yahweh with a final thought of might and abiding strength in him.
6. and you shall teach them diligently to your children. Metaphysically, our children are our thoughts. We should mentally talk and think Truth and love in the body (house), when in outer consciousness (walkest); also when we feel negative and lack energy (liest down), and when we are positive and buoyant (risest up).
7. You shall bind them for a sign on your hand. The hands represent the executive power of the mind; consequently we should realize that back of even the menial work of the hands is the activity of the Jehovah life. Back of the eyes are the brain cells that govern language. These cells should be mentally charged with ideas of super-fluency and freedom of speech.
8. You shall write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates. The house of the mind is the body and the door represents the mind receptive to Truths. The gates represent the accessibility or openness of the whole consciousness to Truth. All of these avenues that enter the consciousness of man must be impressed with the great spiritual truths that come from the super-mind, the Jehovah of God.

¹⁰ It shall be, when Yahweh your God brings you into the land which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you, great and goodly cities1 which you didn’t build, ¹¹ and houses full of all good things which you didn’t fill, and cisterns dug out which you didn’t dig, vineyards and olive trees which you didn’t plant, and you shall eat and be full; ¹² then beware lest you forget Yahweh, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. ¹³ You shall fear Yahweh your God; and you shall serve him, and shall swear by his name. ¹⁴ You shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are around you, ¹⁵ for Yahweh your God among you is a jealous God,2 lest the anger of Yahweh your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth. ¹⁶ You shall not tempt Yahweh your God,3 as you tempted him in Massah. ¹⁷ You shall diligently keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he has commanded you. ¹⁸ You shall do that which is right and good in Yahweh’s sight, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, ¹⁹ to thrust out all your enemies from before you, as Yahweh has spoken.

²⁰ When your son asks you in time to come, saying, “What do the testimonies, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahweh our God has commanded you mean?” ²¹ then you shall tell your son, “We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt. Yahweh brought us out of Egypt4 with a mighty hand; ²² and Yahweh showed great and awesome signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his house, before our eyes; ²³ and he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in, to give us the land5 which he swore to our fathers. ²⁴ Yahweh commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear Yahweh our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are today. ²⁵ It shall be righteousness to us, if we observe to do all these commandments before Yahweh our God, as he has commanded us.”

1. great and goodly cities. Metaphysically interpreted, cities are fixed states of consciousness or aggregations of thoughts in the various nerve centers of the body. The presiding or central thought-meaning of a city is found in the significance of its name, combined with that of the man tribe, country, or nation with which it is mentioned.
2. for Yahweh your God among you is a jealous God. God is Creative Principle, and is continually seeking expression through man. God is not “jealous” in the sense that men exhibit this trait of character, with selfish demand, but with righteous claim requires our loyalty to him and his law.
3. as you tempted him in Massah. The name of a place in the wilderness where the Israelites complained for want of water. Metaphysically, he trial of faith, the temptation, that so often overtakes the would-be overcomer at the beginning of his awakening to the deeper truths of Spirit (MBD/Massah).
4. Yahweh brought us out of Egypt. Metaphysically, the realm of substance and life in the depths of the body consciousness. To the unregenerate soul it is the land of darkness and mystery, yet it is essential to the perpetuation of the body (MBD/Egypt).
5. to give us the land. Metaphysically, a realization of divine substance (RW/Promised Land).

¹ When Yahweh your God brings you into the land where you go to possess it, and casts out many nations before you—the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite—seven nations greater and mightier than you; ² and when Yahweh your God delivers them up before you, and you strike them, then you shall utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them. ³ You shall not make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to his son, nor shall you take his daughter for your son. ⁴ For that would turn away your sons from following me, that they may serve other gods. So Yahweh’s anger would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly. ⁵ But you shall deal with them like this: you shall break down their altars, dash their pillars in pieces, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn their engraved images with fire. ⁶ For you are a holy people to Yahweh your God. Yahweh your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth. ⁷ Yahweh didn’t set his love on you nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples; ⁸ but because Yahweh loves you, and because he desires to keep the oath which he swore to your fathers, Yahweh has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. ⁹ Know therefore that Yahweh your God himself is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness to a thousand generations with those who love him and keep his commandments, ¹⁰ and repays those who hate him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack to him who hates him. He will repay him to his face. ¹¹ You shall therefore keep the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances which I command you today, to do them.
