Metaphysical meaning of Devil (mbd)
Devil (see proper names: ABADDON, APOLLYON, BEELZEBUB, BELIAL, SATAN), called Abaddon and Apollyon, Rev. 9:11; Beelzebub, Matt. 12:24; Belial, II Cor. 6:15-Satan, Luke 10:18 (A. S. V.)--false accuser; calumniator; slanderer; liar.

Meta. Same as Satan, which see. The "devil" signifies the mass of thoughts that have been built up in consciousness through many generations of earthly experiences and crystallized into what may be termed human personality, or carnal mind. Another name of the "devil" is sense consciousness; all the thoughts in one that fight against and are adverse to Truth belong to the state of mind that is known to metaphysicians as the Devil.
