How To Help Those Who Don't Want Our Help

By Bernard Dozier

How do we help someone who turns a deaf ear or who tells us to mind our own business?

All too often our solutions bounce off the minds of troubled people like rain off a duck—and here’s why...

Every one of us has an Ego. Ego is our sense of who we are, but Ego never gets it right. Ego thinks we’re “just human” but everybody’s Ego thinks its superior to all other Egos. So, the resistance and rejection begins.

We know enough Christianity to want to help, but what we may not know is that Christianity—like all religions—has two forms: Exoteric and Esoteric. Exoteric Christianity is concerned with human identity and religious answers, whereas esoteric Christianity is concerned with spiritual identity, recognizing that we’re spiritual beings who’re having problems with being in human form.

If the Bible is right and we souls all spring from the same Spiritual Source, we have the key to helping Ego-dominated souls. The key is to persuade the Ego to accept the help of the inner Spirit. Jesus never claimed personal credit for helping. He said that it was the Father—presumably within Him and within the other soul—who did the work.

My friend, Catherine Ponder, advises readers of her books to to write a letter to the angel of the person they’d like to help. The letter—which is never mailed—praises the wisdom and good judgment of the other person, and tells them how free they are—and how powerful the life, light, peace and goodness of God is in them.

If you’re not into angels, you can think in terms of that person “waking up” and choosing to live a life rooted in the Divine Presence, a life in which they’re receptive to clarity and help coming through a non-threatening channel. It could be a book or a song or a glimpse of truth, or it could come from a person they see as non-threatening.

Our work as a helper is simply to do what we’d do if we wanted to grow tomatoes. We’d sow the seed. That’s pretty much it. You plant the seed. God does the rest. The “soil” we plant in is the Mind side of God. We plant the vision of a happy, healthy, stable, well-adjusted, constructive and productive person in the creative soil of Mind. Then, having done our work, we let the creative Spirit work It’s will It’s way.

Oh, you’ll probably get the feeling that there’s something else you should do. Release all sense of anxiety, stress, and strain. Nurture your vision by establishing your soul in ceaseless faith, expectation, and thanksgiving. Just KNOW that the one you’d like to help will be receiving his or her divine guidance...and that their help will come in just the right way at just the right time.
