It is written in the New Testament that a certain lawyer came to Jesus questioning him. I had an experience today in which a certain lawyer came to me questioning me, and it reminded me that there were a whole lot of people in that lawyer's state of consciousness who probably would like to have the answer I gave him. His question was: ( Autism Case)

We had the realization of the consummation of certain things that this individual wanted brought to pass. I wish you would explain to me just how you got that. Did you see this man coming to do this work? Just how did you see him? Explain that to me." I said: "Do you know what you are doing? You are asking me for an intellectual explanation of a spiritual truth. If you will get into the Spirit and realize with me this spiritual truth, why we can then---I can then make the explanation that you will understand. But I can't explain it to you in a three dimension proposition. And of course the conversation went (p3) on and before I knew it I got to explaining to him that there was a Spirit in man, and that this Spirit in man was the source of man's spirituality and of spiritual power, and this power is filtered through the intellectual man and out into his affairs, his body being part of his affairs.

The body is not the real man, nor is the intelligence, that reasoning that adjusting, that limitation of ideas which we call our mind. That is not the real of man. That is only one of the stories in a three storied house. A great majority live in the second storey which is represented by the intellect. A great many live in the first storey and the basement, but it is possible to live right up in the top storey, in this Spirit. I could not live there all the time. Jesus called this higher storey the mountain of the Lord and he went up on the mountain and preached his sermon on the Mount, the very highest exposition of spiritual Truth. He said in the sermon: "It is written in your scripture an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, but I say unto you, Love your enemies." He gave them from the very highest, from that higher place in his consciousness. That is where the spiritual healer, the spiritual demonstrator should be able to go, up into this mountain or top storey of this house, this spiritual consciousness, and from there he should send out a radiation that will move upon not only a universal intelligence the universal mind of man and the planet itself, but that they should filter down and into the physical, the very earth itself, until this place is charged with spiritual qualities. This is logical, you can see.

I called his attention to the radio. He didn't understand how I could preach to a thousand people a day or Silent Unity department administer to that many. That was too much, he said. I said: "There you are now, trying to get a conception of this from your personal viewpoint. You can't do it. I will give you an illustration in the every day acknowledged fact. That is, the radio. You have a central station and it is broadcasting through the ether. I send out a sermon every Sunday morning or an interpretation of the lesson. It is taken by our radio station and thrown out into the ether and it goes to just as many people as tune in. We do exactly the same thing in ministering a thousand people, or ten thousand, just as many as have faith and that spiritually listen in to the message we send. They get results. They listen to that Word of the Lord and they are healed. We have every day testimonials proving this. People all over the world, according to their faith, get the message. They are helped and healed and restored and made happy every day that we throw into this universal spiritual ether. There is an illustration, you can't comprehend it.

I don't know that I comprehend it intellectually. I do not know how just putting that message into a higher state of consciousness---radio people call it 'stepping it up' or amplifying. When the vibrations of my voice are carried through this amplifier it has back of it two large generators, dynamos and they are generating electricity. It takes the force and throws(p9) it up into the wire, the antennae and they throw it into the ether which is everywhere, everywhere waiting for the people everywhere to pick it up. Isn't that a good illustration?

Exactly the same way, the Lord is using our broadcasting station. This body and its mind and brain is one of the finest broadcasting stations in the universe because we broadcast through a finer ether. Jesus said it is a matter of prayer. When you pray, close these outer doors. Just as anyone would go into a room and close the doors so that only the one who is speaking can be heard, we have a room-in our consciousness like that where we can close the outer door and go into the closet, into a padded room and speak to the Father in the silence and he will regard you openly. He will broadcast it for you. You do not have to make an effort of any kind, just simply ask God to do this thing.

This lawyer said: "You went to these people, I suppose, you helped them dispose of their property, helped them to get more prosperity." "No, we did not.“ We say: the Lord is going to help them and if they have faith and believe, if they observe instructions and pray in secret, if two or three get together, making a stronger receiving station, they will get it. All you or I have to do is to make ourselves a strong central station, and the stronger the station the more power, you get what you ask for. Why is it necessary, if God is everywhere, why is it necessary for several people to get together. There is just the same necessity as there is to have a broadcasting station of more power.

On the first of September the power of our broadcasting station will be just twice that of the present one. We are simply going to increase the generating force of the station, put in a stronger dynamo and amplifier. Changing the amplifier merely represents effort. People say: "I dreamed of a lot of money last night. Do you think I am going to get some money from sore place?" And I say: "You already have a lot of money. " You dream of picking it up in the street and it means that you have it all stored up in your mind. If you are wise it will bring money to you but money is not going to come to you out of the air.”

This lawyer started out with the idea that we are practicing the art of necromancy, that we are hypnotizing, mesmerizing a lot of people, making them believe we could do things out of our power. He did not understand it when I explained to him that God was everywhere, and he did the work, that anything anyone had to do was to apply the law.

That is just what Jesus taught. It appeals to everybody. He didn't set himself up as a majesty that everybody had to bow down to. No, everybody has the same things. It is just a matter of finding the law and complying to it. Jesus said: “When two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." God is working in every one of us to the extent that we will let him work. It is a matter of recognizing and letting this God power work in us. That is all there is to it. The more you apply yourselves to this power within you and attempt to cleave to the law, the better results you will get. Jesus laid down a law (and we are recognizing it) that we should seek first the kingdom of God, seek that and its righteousness, and then all these things shall be added unto you. Not a few things, but all these things, money, joy, all happiness, all success, all prosperity, everything your hearts desire shall be added unto you if you comply to the primal law. That is all there is to it. It seems a little difficult to comply to that law because we have wandered away from its fundamentals.

It is a little too easy for us to believe intellectually. Man believes in strenuous work. He works so hard he has nervous prostration. The other night in the business men's meeting they were pledging themselves to work during the coming Unity conference. They were being asked how many hours or how many days they could give to the work, how many cars they could furnish. Some said they would work a half day, some a whole day, some two days. They said to me: "How any days will you work?" And I said: "I will work fourteen days and fourteen nights, the whole session." They thought that was very generous. Why was I willing to work that much? Because I had that realization that I am at work for the Lord asleep or awake. I haven't anything else to do and it is not hard work. I believe I am getting lazier every day. It seems to me that I don't do anything any more but think and talk. It just comes so easy and I used to think I couldn't say three words in public. Now I could talk all day.

We are gathered this evening for a love feast and for thanksgiving. I think every period devoted to the Lord should have a portion devoted first to thanksgiving. Whenever I feel adverse winds in my air, I say: "What do I need:" and almost always it comes to me that I need gratitude, thanksgiving. God is all, God is good, everything is coming your way. Give thanks; give, praise. Nothing helps so (much) p20 as that note of thanksgiving. Let us give thanks for the little things to begin with. They grow into large things. Jesus said how can you expect God to trust you with his great possessions when you have not proven yourself with the little things. If you are taking care of your little world you will be entrusted with the larger world. As you give thanks you enlarge your whole consciousness.
