What Charles Fillmore Said About Divine Intelligence in Every Atom

§8 We believe that divine intelligence is present in every atom of man and of matter, and that the “more abundant life,” which Jesus promised, is flooding the world and quickening the minds and the bodies of men everywhere.

We often say, “your mind,” or “my mind,” but whose mind is it anyway? The answer, of course, is that there is only one Mind—the original Mind in which all real ideas exist. In section four we discussed the concept of the Trinity and Charles Fillmore’s metaphysical interpretauon of the Father aspect of Mind which is the medium through which intelligence funedons. Since God is omnipresent, intelligence is omnipresent. Emilie Cady wrote in Lessons in Truth, “There is no lack of life, substance, or intelligence anywhere.” (page 45) This means that wherever you are, in every atom and cell of your body, and in all situations, divine intelligence is there ready to direct the perfect activity of man and matter. Even Thomas Edison said that his experiments have satisfied him that every molecule of matter has a center of intelligence as well as of force. Where this intelligence is, the ideas and energy to provide the “more abundant life” or a greater expression of God-life are found.

When Myrtle Fillmore found spiritual healing, she realized that she could communicate with the intelligence in every cell of her body and so spoke words of life and health to them, as well as asked their forgiveness for all the false ideas she had held about them. Matter, itself, does not produce anything, it is a product, a precipitate. Our minds, functioning through the faculty of faith, have the ability to form or precipitate matter from invisible and infinite substance. If it is malformed as illness or disease, poverty or old age, it is because we have believed in ignorance and then reaped the result of our choices. E.V. Ingraham (an early teacher in the Unity Training School and a minister of mine in the 1970’s) said, “Because we believed that our bodies are matter is what is the matter with us.”

When Myrtle Fillmore spoke to the cells of her body she understood that the ignorance that caused disease had been her own. She also knew that the matter which formed her body was itself not intelligent, but it had divine intelligence within it and it was to the divine intelligence that she directed her words and thoughts. The intelligence then began to cause the matter of her body to conform to her new concept.

In your own life and body, remember that omnipresent intelligence can be contacted in ever)- circumstance and that it responds to your word by shaping universal energy to meet even- need.

Space is filled with vibrations of light, and light is the vehicle of intelligence: so it is a logical and demonstrable fact that space is vibrant with life and intelligence.
—Charles Fillmore quoted in The Essential Charles Fillmore, by Jim Gaither, page 78.

Meditation in the Silence

1. Choose a time and a place where you will be alone and undisturbed for at least 20 minutes.

2. Assume a comfortable position so that there is no feeling of tension or strain in your body.

3. If sitting, place both feet flat upon the floor. Put your hands comfortably in your lap with either both palms up to receive blessings, or with the left palm up and the right down to receive and give a blessing.

4. Close your eyes, be still, and relax.

5. Focus your attention upon your head and begin to relax the muscles in your scalp, face, and neck. Say softly or silently:

In the name of Jesus Christ relax, relax, relax. Peace, be still; wait upon the Lord only.

6. When you are ready, move your attention to trunk, arms and legs and repeat:

In the name of Jesus Christ relax, relax, relax. Peace, be still; wait upon the Lord only.

7. Now bring your attention to the throat and the power center where the creative Word is forming to give life, substance, and intelligence to your declared word of faith. Affirm softly and then several times silently:

Divine intelligence fills every cell of my body; my body glows with the pure and perfect life of God.

8. Rest in the silence letting the affirmation reveal its Truth to you.

9. When you are ready, return your awareness first to your physical body, and then to your surroundings as you re-enter your world.
