Metaphysical meaning of CenchreAe (mbd)
CenchreAe (A. V., Cenchrea), cen'ehre-Æ (Gk.)--millet; milletlike; small grains; small beads.

A harbor of Corinth (Acts 18:18). There was a Christian assembly in the place, and Phoebe was a deaconess in this church (Rom. 16:1). In this place, too, either Paul or Aquila (the text is not quite clear) had "shorn his head...for he had a vow."

Meta. Cenchreae (small grains, like millet) signifies, like the mustard seed of Jesus' parable, the fact that the Truth established in the consciousness of man is at first similar to a very tiny seed (the word is the seed). We should not therefore despise nor look upon as insignificant any beginning of light and Truth that comes to us or to others, no matter how small it may seem. We should always remember the wonderful power of the Christ Spirit to cause the seed of Truth to grow and increase in the consciousness of each individual who gives it place and welcomes its presence.
