The Book of Revelation Revealed - 5 (Giudici)
Segment 12 - 05.01 - The scroll and the lamb
Then suddenly, it moves over to chapter five. And you’ll see in chapter five, that our attention is called to a scroll. There’s a certain scroll there in chapter five, okay? And it’s in the right hand of God, who’s sitting on the throne, alright?
And this scroll is sealed with seven seals, here comes the symbology again. It’s sealed with seven seals, but nobody has authority to break the seals except one, and that’s going to be Jesus. And let’s see how he speaks of Jesus in these terms here. Look at chapter five, okay? And go on down to verse three, alright?
He says, “And no one in Heaven or on Earth, or under the Earth, was able to open the scroll or look into it. And I wept much that no one was found worthy to open the scroll, or to look into it. Then when one of the elders said to me, “Weep not, lo the Lion of the tribe of Judah. The Root of David.” And Jesus was descended from David. That’s an important point that’s made throughout the New Testament in the genealogy of Jesus, it’s recorded in both Matthew and Luke. He’s descended from the House of David. Why? Because the belief developed that the Messiah was to come through the House of David.
So here he is, identified. He’s not mentioned as Jesus, but it’s clearly Jesus. “Weep not, lo the Lion of the tribe of Judah. The root of David has conquered.” So here, Jesus is presented as how? As a conquering hero. As a warrior messiah, that’s one picture of Jesus. “So that he can open the scroll and the seven seals. And between the throne and the four living creatures, and among the elders, I saw a lamb standing as though it had been slain.”
This is another reference to Jesus, okay? This is a different concept of Jesus, now as a prince of peace, as the lamb who had been sacrificed, who had been crucified. So he gives this two-part picture of Jesus here. And then the whole thing goes on down. The conqueror has power and strength, and he’s going to open the seal, then the lamb appears and takes charge of the scroll, and that sort of thing, and then we’re ready now. There’s a little chant that takes place, and then suddenly, the seals are broken one by one.
