9A MONEY AS A SYMBOL:

“What men need to know is that moner represents a mind substance of unlimited abundance and accessibility; that this mind substance cannot safely be hoarded or selfishly used by anyone; that it is a living magnet attracting good fo every kind to those who possess it; that those who train their thoughts to depend on this mind substance for supply of all kinds never lack” (KL/106)

This statement by Mr. Fillmore can open all sorts of new insights and realizations that can change our basic attitude about money. The difficulty connected with this metaphysical insight is that mind substance is not visible and tangible -- only ita corresponding symbol is. And so the tendency is to worship money rather than the divine source of the mind substance. When this attitude changes, and the divine source is worshiped, prosperity can be enjoyed to the fullest.

9B THE MONEY IDEA:

Watch your thoughts when you are handling your money, because your money is attached through your mind to the one source of all substance and a;; ,pmey … which is visible, as something directly attached to an invisible source that is giving or withholding according to your thought, you have the key to all riches and the reason for all lack” (KL/102).

Money is the visible evidence of an invisible idea. We must always be aware of this Truth when we use money so that we may know and experience true abundance.

9C LAW OF GIVING AND RECEIVING:

“If you discover the wonder of giving, you will find a great blessing of inner fulfillment in your work, which will lead to better work, and, by the law of causation, to a greater experience of affluence, which may come through your job or through many different channels. The law is exact: If you give, really work in a giving consciousness, you must receive” (SE/167).

Giving and receiving are really the ways we participate in establishing balance in the manifestation of prosperity. Giving and receiving cause a flow of substance in soul and body which manifest in every area of our lives.

9D LAW OF TITHING:

“Tithing -- Giving a tenth of one’s supply to God and His work. Tithing is a tacit agreement that man is in partnership with God in the conduct of his finances . . . tithing, which is based on a law that cannot fail, establishes method in giving. It brings into the consciousness a sense of divine order that is manifested in one’s outer life and affairs as increased efficiency and greater prosperity” (RW/195).

“Tithing can be a way of getting into a giving consciousness, but it is not a substitute for a giving attitude . . . The great news is to give way to the divine flow, and tithing can be an excellent means of achieving the giving consciousness” (SE/186).

Tithing is a very special kind of giving. It is giving with the thought of God uppermost in mind. This is why tithing is always connected with something spiritual, usually a church or a religious organization. It is not the church which causes it to be a tithe, but the thought of God in the mind of the giver. Mr. Fillmore suggests that the thought of God as “partner” is a good one to adopt in tithing. Others may choose the thought of God as Source, or Increase, or unfailing substance. But whatever form we may choose, it is the thought of God which constitutes the difference between tithing and other types of giving.

9E LAW OF LOVE:

“Many who have found the law of true thinking and its effect wonder why supply does not come to them after months and years of holding thoughts of bounty. It is because they have not developed love. They have formed the right image in mind, but the magnet that draws the substance from the storehouse of Being has not been set into action” (TT/55).

Love is our spiritual power to offer blessings to others and to attract the blessings we desire. Attaining prosperity results from more than the right use of a particular method, it results from the unconditional expression of our faculty of love.

SUMMARY STATEMENTS

MONEY, ITSELF, IS NOT PROSPERITY. MONEY IS A SYMBOL THAT REPRESENTS INVISIBLE, UNLIMITED, EVER-PRESENT MIND SUBSTANCE.

GIVING AND RECEIVING ARE TWO ASPECTS OF A PROSPERITY LAW THAT MUST BE EXERCISED IF WE ARE TO RELEASE THE FLOW OF ABUNDANT GOOD IN OUR CONSCIOUSNESS.

TITHING IS GIVING WITH THE THOUGHT OF GOD UPPERMOST IN OUR MIND. WE ARE ENCOURAGED TO SHARE OUR TITHE WHEREVER WE RECEIVE OUR SPIRITUAL GOOD.

LOVE IS THE MAGNET THAT DRAWS OUR GOOD TO US IN WONDERFUL AND HARMONIOUS WAYS.

TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION

  1. How do you see yourself activating the law of giving and receiving in your own life?
  2. Does financial wealth automatically bring unhappiness? Why do you think that literature often portrays wealthy individuals as being frustrated and unfulfilled?

THOUGHTS FOR REFLECTION AND MEDITATION

"You are a rich and creative spiritual being.
You can never be less than this.
You may frustrate your potential.
You may identify
with that which is less than what you can be.
But within you
now and always
is the unborn possibility
of a limitless experience
of inner stability
and outer treasure,
and yours is the privilege
of giving birth to it.
And you will,
if you can believe"
(SE/75).
